Audience Research
Audience Research
To further my research into the target audience, I conducted a survey to recognise the likes and dislikes of those that fit into the age category. This information helps form a more audience-centric product, which prioritises and caters to them. Without this information, I would lack knowledge of how connected people are with my chosen topic of culture, with no concept of what will appeal to them.
To begin learning more about my audience, I conducted a survey to establish more precise demographics and psychographics.
All of the respondents fit into the age category given by the brief, which is extremely helpful as all of the answers I can take into account. The second question being 'Are you interested in Musical Theatre' fetched results that differed slightly, but results that I can explore. As 70% of those who responded said 'yes', I can see what it is that makes them interested and if it is impacted by being from the North East. 20% of respondents said 'no', which will allow me to explore if there is a lack of representation there or if it just is not of interest to them. The remaining 10% chose 'sort of', which I am interpreting as it not being a main feature in their lives, but they are not opposed to it. These findings provide knowledge to me that there is quite a lot of Musical Theatre representation, but this just might not be accessible to a small few. There was a unanimous voting of 'yes' with the question 'if your answer is no, are you interested in any sort of arts e.g music, films etc.' proving that the arts are consumed by many young people in the North East and there is not a lack of this. 70% of respondents said that they were aware of at least some Musical Theatre groups or organisations in the local area, with 30% saying no. This was the response that shocked me the most. I was expecting only a small amount to be aware of this, but this representation is something I can explore in my own project. The sixth and final question I asked was 'Can you name one or more musicals?'. Every respondent did provide me with at least one musical, which came as a surprise to me. This question was mostly just to see if they were aware of current Theatre shows, which clearly all respondents were.
Overall, being able to establish my audience and their awareness of Musical Theatre will help in my project as I can cover any gaps and lack of representation, while also flaunting what is currently on offer for those in the industry.
