Focus Group (reflecting on Interview Questions)

 Focus Group

Once completing all pre-production stages of my project, I decided to hold a focus group to reflect on my interview questions; whether these were appropriate, to gather audience feedback and see if they believed it would be beneficial to add or take away any of the questions I was planning. Being able to talk with my peers who are doing completely different topics is extremely refreshing and allows me to thoroughly visualise my audience. Through doing this focus group, I aim to:

-Collect feedback on my interview questions (Are they suitable? Are they worded correctly?)

-Discover what they would hope to see in my project (after being shown my pitch and script)

-Discover if my plans are fitting within the theme of Sunderland Culture

Questions asked:

-Do you think these questions are appropriate for a documentary on Musical Theatre in the North East?

-What else would you expect to see from this documentary?

-Would you say this is suitable for the target audience of 16-25 year olds?

-Do these questions fit the theme of Sunderland Culture?

-Do you predict that the answers I receive will be more positive or negative?

-Would you be interested in watching this documentary?

-Are there any additional questions you think would fit in my documentary?

Reflection on focus group:

Overall, I was extremely pleased with the direction that my focus group went in. Hearing from 2 points of view from my peers that my questions were suitable, abided by the theme and they were keen to see what my project will hold gave me reassurance. It is important for documentary-makers to listen to their audience, so hearing positive feedback from my project even before it was in production was refreshing.
